Vol. 143 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Coal Imports.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the amount of British coal imported in each of the years 1950, 1951, 1952 and 1953 to date and at what price per ton.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving the desired information.

Following is the statement:—

In view of the large supplies of coal imported from Britain and elsewhere, and of the fact that there is very great difficulty in obtaining a market for Irish-mined coal and anthracite——

The question relates simply to the amount of British coal imported.

May I ask the Taoiseach if he would restrict the amount of coal imported?

It does not arise out of this question. It is quite a separate question.
