Vol. 144 No. 1

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Laoighis-Offaly Road Workers' Wages.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state if he received a copy of a resolution passed at a Labour Party conference held in Portlaoighise on 10th January, 1954, requesting him to sanction payment of the increased rate of wages unanimously recommended by the members of the Laoighis County Council on 26th October, 1953, and also requesting him to ensure that all road workers employed by the two county councils of Laoighis and Offaly under the supervision of the same county manager will be paid the same rates of wages from the same date in this and all future cases of alteration of wages rates, and if he will state what action he proposes taking in the matter.

I have received a copy of a resolution on the lines indicated. The matters referred to therein are ones for the consideration in the first instance of the county manager.

I assume that the House will agree to finish the Local Government questions.
