asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state in respect of each of the 187 industries which Government spokesmen claim have been established since June, 1951, (a) the date of establishment; (b) the commodities produced; (c) the location; (d) the number of persons employed, and (e) the amount of State aid granted.
Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Establishment of Industries.
The information requested by the Deputy so far as it is available to me, has been summarised in the form of a return. I am arranging to lay this return on the Table of the Dáil.
The 187 industries included in the return were established in the period 13th June, 1951, to 19th October, 1953. Since the latter date a further 16 new undertakings have come to the notice of my Department as having commenced production.
Industries which received State assistance in the form of guaranteed trade loans are shown separately. Cases in which grant moneys were made available by An Foras Tionscal up to 31st March, 1953, are also shown separately. Information about subsequent grants by An Foras Tionscal will not be available until the board presents its report for the period to 31st March, 1954.
Employment is a variable factor and it would not be possible, therefore, to give employment figures without making a special investigation.
I wish to emphasise that the return includes only those undertakings which have come officially to the notice of my Department, but there may be others of which there is no official record to date.
Following is the return:

Will the Tánaiste circulate copies of these returns to Deputies?
Deputies will find them in the Library.
Will the employment figures be available later, the number of persons employed in these industries?
The employment figures are published in the statistical abstract as they are collected once a year.
Will the Minister tell us the number of industries closed down or collapsed?
Will the Deputy?
It is your job.
