Vol. 144 No. 6

Written Answers. - Acquisition of County Dublin Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the estate of Portland Cement Company, Limited, near Loughshinny, Skerries, was acquired by the Land Commission for sub-division among uneconomic landowners; and, if so, if he will state whether tenants have been selected, the area of land allocated in each case, the acreage acquired and the price agreed.

The Land Commission acquired some 72 acres of this estate and the price was fixed by the Appeal Tribunal at £3,700.

An area of 58 acres has been allotted among seven local smallholders in parcels ranging from three acres to 11 acres and a further area of 14 acres remains to be allotted later this year.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission have decided to acquire portion of the Palmer estate at Rush, County Dublin, for sub-division among deserving applicants for land; and, if so, if he will state the price agreed and the number of applicants to whom a portion of this estate will be allocated.

An area of 208 acres on this estate has been sold voluntarily by the former owner to the Land Commission; possession was taken in mid-December. As the sale was voluntary it is felt that the price agreed upon should not be disclosed.

The number of successful applicants will be apparent very shortly when the lands are being divided; it would not be in the interest of land settlement work that such information should be made public in advance.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission intends to acquire the Remount Farm at Lusk for sub-division among deserving local applicants; and, if so, if he will indicate the present position in the matter.

The Land Commission are not in a position to acquire the lands in question. They are State property and cannot be sold to Land Commission pending the passing of enabling legislation in the form of a new State Lands Act.
