Vol. 144 No. 7

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Allotment of Mayo Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware of the grave dissatisfaction of the tenants in Face-field, Derrowel and other townlands in the vicinity of Balla, County Mayo, because of the failure of the Land Commission to honour the promise made over a year ago that all the lands in the possession of the commission in the area would be allotted in the spring, 1953; and, if so, if he will request the commission to honour their promise forthwith.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to his question of 20th November, 1952, in this matter and point out that no undertaking was given in that reply that the lands mentioned would be allotted in spring, 1953. This particular case is one of a number in South Mayo awaiting rearrangement, and such work is always of a difficult nature demanding very experienced staff who have been for some time past and are at present engaged on other important work.
