Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Registration of Motor Vehicles.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the number of (a) motor cars, (b) passenger buses, (c) motor commercial vehicles, (d) tractors and (e) motor cycles registered in the Republic of Ireland in 1952 and 1953.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving the desired information.

Following is the statement:—

NUMBER OF PRIVATE CARS, PUBLIC SERVICE VEHICLES, COMMERCIAL GOODS VEHICLES, ROAD LOCOMOTIVES, MOTOR TRACTORS AND MOTOR CYCLES UNDER CURRENT LICENCE IN AUGUST 1952 AND 1953.

Certain changes in classification have resulted from the operation in 1953 of the Finance (Excise Duties) (Vehicles) Act, 1952. These changes impair in a minor degree only the comparability of the figures given for 1952 and 1953.
