Vol. 145 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hire-Purchase Financing.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state whether the development of hire-purchase financing in this country is kept under adequate review and whether steps to limit its operation to suitable and beneficial purposes are in contemplation and preparation.

Section 65 of the Central Bank Act, 1942, empowers the Central Bank to obtain information as to hire-purchase businesses. The results of the bank's inquiries are published in its annual report.

Hire-purchase is regulated by the Hire-Purchase Act, 1946, which was sponsored by the Minister for Industry and Commerce, and any request for further information should be addressed to him.
