Vol. 146 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - West Cork Radio Reception.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state whether wireless-set owners in West Cork have any prospect of getting a reasonable reception of Radio Éireann programmes in the near future.

Some of the coastal areas in West Cork are outside the first-class reception area of a central medium wave station and these areas, being nearest to the Continent, are also affected by interference from foreign stations, particularly after dark. In the more distant places from Athlone it is necessary to have an efficient earth and aerial as well as a good quality receiver to get reasonably good reception.

The recent installation of a new transmitter should have improved reception from Cork in places not too far from the city and when we get a new transmitter in Athlone next year it may improve reception generally.
