Vol. 146 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authorities' Expenditure.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state whether any decision has yet been made as to the extent to which the Central Fund will in future take responsibility for expenditures of local authorities which are at present being met by local rates, in accordance with the undertaking given by the present Minister for Defence to the Fine Gael Convention at Sligo on 13th March, 1954, as reported in the Press; and, if not, when he expects to be in a position to make a statement in the matter.

The reply is in the negative. It is not at present my intention to make a statement in the matter.

Has the Minister for Defence any statement to make?

I am building a new arms factory.
