Vol. 146 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Waterford: Labourers' Cottages.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he can state the reason for the hold up since 1952 of the scheme for labourers' cottages proposed to be carried out by the Waterford County Council, and if he will use his good offices to hurry up the scheme.

No proposals for a rural cottage scheme have been submitted to my Department in recent years by Waterford County Council. I understand, however, that the county council have experienced considerable difficulty in compiling accurate estimates of housing needs in the county and in forming panels of persons to be rehoused. I am informed that the county council hope to be in a position within a few weeks to submit firm proposals to the Department for the acquisition of sites for a comprehensive rural cottage scheme.
