Vol. 146 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Government Departments— Decentralisation.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state whether it is the policy of the Government to decentralise certain Government Departments; and, if so, if he will bear in mind the desirability of transferring a Department or a branch thereof to Limerick City; and whether he will have such a possibility investigated.

The general object envisaged by the decentralisation of Government administration is one with which the Government are in sympathy, but—as I have pointed out before—the implementation of such a policy is beset with serious practical difficulties. As the occasion for considering the matter occurs, the claims of all suitable centres for the purposes of decentralisation will be borne in mind.
