Vol. 146 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Pensions: Applications.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is aware that a large percentage of applications for service pensions have been turned down by the Army Pensions Board; and, if so, whether he will introduce proposals for legislation to enable him to permit a further re-hearing of the applications referred to.

I assume that the Deputy is referring to applications and petitions under the Military Service Pensions Acts in which the Board of Assessors and the Referee have made unfavourable reports.

As I stated when moving the Estimate for Army pensions, I propose to allow the present phase to be completed under the existing system. I will then have an over-all picture of the situation which will be of assistance to me in considering whether anything further needs to be done.
