Vol. 146 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road Workers' Wages.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that the Kerry County Council unanimously agreed to increase road workers' wages by 15/- per week; and, if so, if he will explain his Department's delay in sanctioning the proposal.

I am aware of the resolution of the Kerry County Council referred to by the Deputy. The resolution does not, however, constitute a proposal on which a decision can be given.

Can the Minister say whether his Department will now take action in the matter or send it back to the county council? This proposal was unanimously agreed to by the county council.

There was no proposal. There was a resolution. The Deputy can see the distinction between a resolution and a proposal. Until the Minister receives a proposal, the resolution means nothing.

Will the Minister indicate whether the proposal must come from the county manager or the Kerry County Council?

I have received nothing other than a resolution from the Kerry County Council.
