Vol. 147 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pig Prices.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware of the serious financial loss incurred by farmers due to the sharp drop in the price of pigs and the substantial increase in the prices of pig feeding stuffs; and if he will state what action he has taken or intends to take in the matter.

The decline in pig prices which occurred over the past couple of months was due to a variety of factors. There is a marked recovery in pig prices this week.

As regards feeding stuffs prices, I am not aware of any substantial increase in the general level of prices, which in fact is below the level of a year ago.
