Vol. 147 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Leggings Contract.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state (a) why a contract for the supply of Army legging backs was not arranged following receipt of tenders in his Department in June, 1954; (b) whether tenders have since been reinvited and a contract arranged, and, if so, the price paid; and (c) how the purchase price compared with the price quoted in the lowest tender received by his Department in June, 1954.

No tenders were received in my Department for Army legging backs in June, 1954. Tenders were received, however, in that month for the supply of Army leggings and it is assumed that this is what the Deputy has in mind.

A contract was not arranged following receipt of the tenders in this case because the tenders received were not all on a comparable basis, a misunderstanding having arisen in regard to the prices quoted by one firm for the supply of legging backs to legging manufacturers.

Tenders have not since been reinvited.
