Vol. 147 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Cottages.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that the estimated rents and rates for cottages at Skeoge and Burnfoot, County Donegal, were 10/6 per week and that a simplification of plans and other savings resulted in a reduction of over £300 per cottage in construction costs, whereas a reduction of only 1/- was made in rents and rates per cottage; and, if so, whether he will take steps to ensure that the full benefit of the aforesaid savings is passed on to the tenants by way of a more equitable reduction of rent.

I am not so aware. Rent proposals in respect of these schemes have not yet been submitted to me.

It is surprising, in view of the fact that the houses are tenanted and that the tenants are paying rent, that that has not been done. Do I take it from the Minister's reply that there is a hope that the 9/6 rent may not be the permanent rent?

That is not the question the Deputy asked. Perhaps he would address it to the local authority.
