Vol. 147 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drying Plants.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that, while lorries of wheat are held up at drying plants in parts of the country, drying plants are idle in the West, and if he will ensure that these idle plants will be allocated work without further delay.

At my request the Flour Millers' Irish Wheat Association undertook on 19th October to use all available drying plants in the country to the greatest possible extent. If the owners of the drying plants referred to by the Deputy have not already done so they should communicate with that association with a view to arranging for the drying of wheat on behalf of millers. If I might add to that I would like to say that any farmer in Ireland can get his wheat dried whether it is millable or unmillable within 48 hours of its being threshed. Any farmer who does not get that accommodation, if he will get in touch with my Department, will be helped to secure it.
