Vol. 147 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Rural Electrification.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the present position with regard to the proposals for the provision of rural electrification in the following areas in County Kerry:—Beaufort, Milltown and Listry, Glenflesk and Barnaduff, Templenoe, Sneem and Tahilla, Glenbeigh and Glencar.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that some of these areas have already been considered for selection for development under the rural electrification scheme but have not so far been selected. The other areas will be considered for selection as soon as the results of official canvasses to be carried out in them become available. I am not in a position to state when the development of any of these areas is likely to take place.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that in the official canvass of the Glenbeigh area there was a 90 per cent. acceptance? Can he give us the reason why rural electrification could not be installed in that particular district?

A decision is made on the results of the canvasses. The districts with the highest percentages of acceptances get precedence.
