Vol. 147 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Shipping Passenger Service.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will request Irish Shipping, Limited, to consider favourably the establishment of a passenger sailing service between the port of Limerick and Britain.

The question of further participation in the cross-Channel shipping services generally is at present under consideration by Irish Shipping, Limited.

A direct sea service between Limerick and British ports would not, however, appear to hold out any particular attraction for passengers as the journey would take over twice as long as the combined rail/sea journey by existing passenger routes.
