Vol. 147 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Turbary Plot Roads.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware of the necessity for constructing roads into turbary plots which are being divided by his Department in areas in South Kerry; and, if so, if he will make the necessary grants available for the carrying through of the work at an early date.

It is difficult to decide what particular roads the Deputy has in mind. Certain bog roads at Kilquane and at Cordal East have been badly damaged by floods and some of the allottees of turbary rights have drawn attention to their condition. The Land Commission have called for a full report on the matter.

I am referring principally to roads adjacent to the proposed generating station in the Caherciveen district. The Land Commission have divided turbary in that area and the roads have not been constructed so far. Perhaps, the Parliamentary Secretary might convey this proposal to the Minister concerned. In view of the fact that the generating station will be in operation next year, the construction of these roads should be undertaken as early as possible.

I will convey the Deputy's views to the Minister.
