asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the number of local officers of his Department who were transferred from their previous places of employment to other centres since 1st June, 1954, and the total cost falling on State funds in effecting such transfers.

Officers of my Department who were transferred to new centres, either permanently or temporarily, since 1st June, 1954, fall into the following categories:— (a) Officers transferred at their own request; (b) officers compulsorily transferred for disciplinary reasons; (c) officers transferred temporarily for relief duty; (d) officers transferred because of redundancy; (e) officers transferred otherwise in the interests of the service. The total number of officers so transferred was 104 and the total cost falling on State funds in respect of these transfers was £1,347 8s. 6d. which includes the estimated cost where claims for expenses have not yet been received.
