Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Corrib Drainage Scheme.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state (1) the system in operation for the recruitment of labour for the Corrib drainage scheme, and (2) the numbers employed on the scheme during each week since its commencement.

The system in operation for the recruitment of labour for the Corrib-Clare drainage scheme is the same as that generally followed in such schemes under the Office of Public Works, that is, men are recruited through the local employment exchange except certain skilled men—usually key men—who are transferred from other works carried out by that office. Exceptionally some skilled men who apply directly to the Dublin head office may be taken on without reference to the local employment exchange.
