Vol. 147 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Galway Fishing Station.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state whether a proposal to establish a fishing station at Casla Bay was approved by his predecessor in office, and if he will specify the other Departments which are also concerned in the implementation of the scheme.

The position in regard to the establishment of a fishing station at Casla is that a recommendation was made on the 23rd April last by the inter-departmental committee appointed to consider the location of a certain number of major fishery stations, the establishment of which had been decided upon in principle. This recommendation was accepted by my predecessor, but I may point out that until the necessary financial provision had been made for the scheme it cannot be stated that it was approved for execution. The other Departments concerned in the matter are the Department of Finance, including the Office of Public Works, Department of Local Government, and the Department of Industry and Commerce.

Did I understand the Parliamentary Secretary to say that his approval of the scheme on its merits depends upon the decision to provide the finance? Is there no reply?
