Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Imports of Agricultural Produce.
I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement showing the value of agricultural and horticultural produce imported in the nine months January-September, 1954, distinguishing the principal countries of origin. For the purpose of the reply the produce included is defined as raw or simply prepared agricultural and horticultural products, whether these are of a type produced in this country or not. For details of the value and quantity of the various categories imported I have to refer the Deputy to the published Trade Statistics for September, 1954. It must be pointed out that the figures given include a total of £11,183,000 in respect of maize and sorghums, tobacco, tea, cocoa beans, raw cotton, jute and rubber, all of which are agricultural products.
