Vol. 147 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Customs Post.

asked the Minister for Finance whether, pending the construction of a new bridge at Lifford, he will establish a temporary customs post for clearing merchandise at Clady Bridge, County Donegal.

Since 1948, as a temporary concession, the road via Clady Bridge has been approved for the importation and exportation of vehicles, whether empty or carrying goods, of a gross weight exceeding four tons. The concession, which was necessitated by the unsuitability of the bridge at Lifford for such heavy traffic, is intended to remain in operation pending the construction of a new Lifford bridge and is subject to the conditions: (1) that at least 24 hours' notice of the date and time when it is proposed to cross the land frontier at Clady Bridge is given to the preventive officer, customs and excise, Castlefin; and (2) that each vehicle concerned is brought to the customs station at Castlefin or Lifford between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. I have received no representations that any additional facilities are required for the clearance of merchandise at Clady Bridge.
