Vol. 147 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Louth Labourers' Cottages.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state what proposals have been received in his Department for the erection of labourers' cottages in County Louth, and if he will indicate generally the reasons for the delay in dealing with these proposals, and, in particular, those which concern the area of Dunleer, County Louth.

Proposals received in the Department on 23rd March, 1954, from Louth County Council to accept tenders for the erection of 112 labourers' cottages were approved on 14th April, 1954. Two hundred and seventy four tenders were involved and the Deputy will observe that they were dealt with expeditiously in the Department. No proposal for the erection of further labourers' cottages in County Louth has since been submitted for my consideration.

I understand that the county council are at present negotiating for the purchase of a site at Dunleer on which to erect a group of eight cottages. Further progress in this area depends on the availability of a suitable site.
