Vol. 147 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Native Wheat Requirements.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the quantity of native wheat required annually for the bread requirements of this country, assuming that 25 per cent, foreign wheat is used in the grist.

On the basis of using 25 per cent. imported wheat in the grist, it is estimated that, at the existing rate of 80 per cent. extraction, the quantity of native wheat needed annually to meet the bread requirements in this country would be 322,000 tons of dried wheat, equivalent to 360,000 tons of green wheat.
