Vol. 148 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hire Purchase Control.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will introduce proposals for legislation to revise and control the conditions which may be attached to hire purchase transactions, particularly in regard to the rate of interest which may be charged, the minimum deposit required, and the conditions of repayment.

The Hire Purchase Act, 1946, which regulates hire purchase transactions, brought our legislation on this subject up to date.

The volume of complaint which has been received since the passing of that Act is not such as would make it necessary or desirable to have the Act amended.
