Vol. 148 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Floods at Navan.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has received from Navan Urban District Council a report on the estimated amount of the damage suffered by certain persons in Navan owing to recent flooding, and, if so, if he will have the report examined, and make funds available to give further relief to the persons concerned.

A report has been received from the urban district council in this matter. I have no funds at my disposal from which further relief could be given to the persons concerned.

Mr. Tully

Is it a fact that when a deputation waited on the Minister an assurance was given that the matter would be further considered and that the fact that there were no funds available was not mentioned?

I think it has been made abundantly clear on many occasions in this House that the Red Cross is at the disposal of any person who is in distress as a result of floods.

Could the Minister say if the Red Cross have applied for funds to alleviate distress?

I think that question could be addressed to the Minister for Defence.

There are ample funds at their disposal.
