Vol. 148 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wicklow Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands why the Land Commission decided to allocate for afforestation purposes the Cuffe estate, Westbroke, Rathnew, County Wicklow, having regard to the fact that the land is arable and that there was a number of local applicants with uneconomic holdings in the vicinity of the estate.

No part of the Cuffe estate was dealt with by the Land Commission but an area of 73 acres was purchased by the Forestry Division direct from the owner.

The Land Commission were made aware of this transaction at the time and they were satisfied that there was not local congestion on such a scale to justify their intervention.
