asked the Minister for Defence whether funds have been, or will be, made available by the Government to the Irish Red Cross Society for the relief of flood victims, and, if so, the nature of the regulations governing the distribution of such funds.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Relief of Flood Victims.
As the funds already at the society's disposal, which included the balance of previous Grants-in-Aid, were adequate for the relief of immediate hardship in the flooded areas, no special allocation of money for that purpose was made to the society from public funds. The extent and manner of the recoupment which may be necessary of the society's expenditure on relief is at present under consideration.
In carrying out its role in dealing with the immediate relief of hardship the society is not governed by any regulations, but takes such measures as it thinks best.
