Vol. 148 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will consider introducing proposals for legislation to increase unemployment assistance, unemployment benefit, disability benefit, widows' and orphans' pensions and children's allowances to offset the recent increases in the cost of living.

As I have already indicated, the next step which the Government proposes to take in the matter of improving social welfare legislation is to provide for increases in old age and blind pensions. The question of improvements in other benefits is being examined.
