Vol. 148 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Travelling Creamery.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will arrange that the travelling creamery will facilitate the milk producers in proximity to Leam Cross, Pallas, County Kerry, who wish to separate their milk, by stopping there, so as to obviate the long journeys at present required of such milk producers.

There is no travelling creamery operating in or near the Leam Cross area of County Kerry and the suggestion contained in the Deputy's question would not, therefore, be feasible. The district is at present served by two co-operative creamery societies and was surveyed by officers of my Department a few years ago. The result of the survey indicated that the provision of additional creamery facilities in the area would not be an economic proposition.

I would suggest that those farmers in the district who may have long distances to travel to the nearest creamery premises should themselves arrange for the co-operative cartage of their milk supplies, as is done to advantage in many other creamery areas.
