Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Buncrana Unemployment Statistics.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will indicate in respect of the Buncrana Branch Employment Exchange, the number of registered unemployed on (a) 20th February, 1954, and (b) 19th February, 1955.

The reply is: (a) 1,286; (b) 1,545.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will indicate in respect of the Buncrana Branch Employment Exchange, for the period since 1st June, 1954, the number of persons (a) who had their unemployment assistance claims reinvestigated, (b) who had their weekly payments reduced, and (c) who had weekly payment cut off.

The number of persons in the Buncrana local office area whose applications for unemployment assistance have been reinvestigated since the 1st June, 1954, is 30. In 15 of these cases the weekly rate of unemployment assistance was reduced. In five cases unemployment assistance ceased to be payable.
