Vol. 149 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Boyle Post Office.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state (a) the present status of Boyle Post Office, (b) the nature of the change that took place in relation to it recently, (c) the effect of the change on the employment, promotion prospects and emoluments of those employed in there and (d) the reasons for the change in status.

Boyle Post Office is a departmentally staffed office. The grading of the postmaster in charge of the office was changed, on the occurrence of a vacancy in January, 1954, from Class V to Class VI (a). This change was part of a general reclassification of postmasterships made in agreement with staff representatives under the Civil Service Scheme of Conciliation and Arbitration. An internal reorganisation of the office consequent upon it enabled one supervisory post to be suppressed and one post office clerk post to be transferred to another office. There has been no alteration in the services given to the public or in the remuneration of the staff other than the postmaster.
