Vol. 149 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Workers' Bus Fares.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in view of the continued extension of building schemes in Dublin County Borough, he will recommend to C.I.E. to introduce the bulk sale of bus tickets to workers at reduced rates, to be used during the hours of 7 a.m. to 9.30 a.m., 12.30 p.m. to 2.30 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.

I am informed by C.I.E. that this matter has been considered by the board on many occasions during the past few years but that they regard the proposal as impracticable.

Omnibus fares between the corporation housing areas and the city are, however, lower than the fares charged for corresponding distances on other routes.

I would remind the Deputy that under the Transport Act, 1950, the board of C.I.E. may fix such fares as they think fit, and any representations in the matter should, accordingly, be made direct to the board.
