asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state, in respect of the financial year 1955-56, the estimated quantities and average costs per ton of (a) imported wheat, and (b) native wheat, to be used for the production of flour and wheaten meal.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wheat for Flour and Wheaten Meal Production.
Mr. Lemass
Assuming that flour production remains at its existing level and that the extraction rate remains at 80 per cent. it is estimated that 426,000 tons of wheat will be needed for the manufacture of flour and wheaten meal in the financial year 1955-56. Of this total, it is estimated that 133,000 tons will consist of imported wheat and 293,000 tons of native wheat of the 1954 and 1955 harvest.
The average mill-floor cost per ton is estimated to be as follows:—
