Vol. 149 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Live Register Statistics.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the number of men aged 65 years and over and the number of women aged 60 years and over on the live register at a recent date.

The information requested is not available in my Department. A return which, however, was recently compiled shows that there were 3,886 men and 66 women aged 65 years and over in receipt of unemployment benefit or unemployment assistance in the week ended 12th March last.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state, in respect of the last three months, the weekly average number of unskilled labourers who registered (a) at the social welfare office in Galway City, and (b) at the other social welfare offices in County Galway.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to circulate in the Official Report a tabular statement showing in respect of January and February, 1955, and the three weeks ended on 19th March, 1955, which is the latest date for which the information is available, the weekly average numbers of men classified as unskilled workers who were registered at local offices situated in County Galway.

Following is the statement:—
