Vol. 149 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transfer of Bog Tenants.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will request the Land Commission to expedite a decision on the application of a number of people to have their turbary plots in the centre of Sheridan's bog, Colehill, Kinnegad, transferred to the face of the bog, which is not in use.

I have asked the Land Commission to deal with this matter as early as circumstances permit.

Is the Minister aware that this matter was brought to the attention of his Department over 18 months ago and does he consider that it should be necessary at this time to go into the matter again? Surely the Land Commission do not take 18 months to deal with such relatively simple matters?

An area of 68 acres of bog or turbary was dealt with in 1932 and 12 plots comprising 14 acres were refused. The remaining 39 were allotted and a short time later 33 of the 39 went back into the bog. The question the Deputy has raised concerns the changing of four of the existing tenants and the inspector is working on that at the moment and I think it will be all right.
