Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pigs and Bacon Commission.

andM. Deering asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state in respect of the Pigs and Bacon Commission (a) the names of its members, (b) by whom they are selected, (c) what are their functions, and (d) whether there is a producers' representative on it.

(a) The three members are as follows:—Chairman, Mr. F. O'Leary, Senior Superintending Veterinary Inspector, Department of Agriculture; ordinary members, Mr. J. Beatty, Senior Inspector, Department of Agriculture and Mr. D.J. Buckley, Principal Officer, Department of Agriculture.

(b) The appointment of the members of the commission is vested in the Minister for Agriculture by the Pigs and Bacon (Amendment) Act, 1939.

(c) The commission's functions are those assigned to it by the Pigs and Bacon (Amendment) Act, 1939, and by the Bacon, Live Pigs and Pork Carcases (Export to Minister of Food) Order, 1952.

(d) Under Section 6 of the Act mentioned, as amended by the Emergency Powers (No. 237) Order, 1942, no person may be appointed as an ordinary member of the commission unless he has served as an officer of the Minister for Agriculture or of the Minister for Industry and Commerce.
