Vol. 150 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Constitution of Cork Harbour Board.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, when the Cork Harbour Commission is being reconstituted this year, he will give proper representation to Cobh Harbour interests, viz., the Cobh Urban District Council, Cobh industrialists, representatives of the liner companies, and commercial and agricultural interests.

The constitution of the Cork Harbour Board is on the same basis as that of the other principal harbours listed in Part I of the First Schedule to the Harbours Act, 1946. The local authority representation on the Cork board includes a member appointed by the Cobh Urban District Council.

The basis of representation is designed to secure efficient harbour administration as well as the provision of adequate portal facilities for all classes of traffic and all users of the port.

In making my nominations to the new board to be elected in the current year, I will have due regard to all relevant considerations affecting representation.

In this matter I am in agreement with the Deputy.

I should like to raise Questions Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 5 on the Adjournment.

I shall communicate with the Deputy during the evening.
