Vol. 150 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Housing.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the reasons for the delay in sanctioning proposals for the building of houses at Santry, County Dublin.

Definite proposals in regard to the scheme referred to by the Deputy have not yet been formulated by the housing authority.

I would ask the Minister to state the reasons for the delay. Is the Minister aware that this matter has been in train for almost two years? It concerns the urgent need for the building of houses for middle-class, white-collar workers in the Santry area. How long more are we to wait for the ponderous machinery of the Civil Service to discharge this matter?

As I told the Deputy, this is not a matter for a Civil Service Department. It is a matter for the housing authority. The housing authority in this case have not yet formally submitted any proposals for such a scheme to my Department. When they do, I can assure the Deputy there will be no delay in dealing with it when it reaches the Department. As yet, the housing authority themselves have not formulated any scheme.
