Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Post Office Telephones.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state the number of post offices, which were equipped with telephones in each of the calendar years 1950 to 1954, inclusive; further, if he will state the number of post offices yet to be so equipped, and if it is expected that the programme of work will be completed this year.

The information requested is as follows: 1950, 73; 1951, 171; 1952, 246; 1953, 225; 1954, 77.

Sixteen post offices have yet to be provided with telephones, the cause of the delay in 14 cases being wayleave difficulties raised by the local authorities concerned. Subject to settlement of these difficulties, the programme will be completed this year.
