Vol. 150 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Louth Schemes.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has conaidercd the proposals for works which could be usefully carried out in County Louth health district, Drogheda and Dundalk, and which were forwarded to his Department by the county manager on 8th January, 1954; further, whether he is now prepared to make a grant towards these works from the National Development Fund in order to ease the unemployment situation.

asked the Minister for Local Government what is the present position in regard to the proposals submitted by the Dundalk Urban District Council on 8th January, 1954; further, whether it is proposed to make & grant from the National Development Fund for the implementation of the works proposed, and, if so, the extent of such grant.

I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 53 and 54 together.

The several categories of works comprised in the proposals referred to have been under consideration in conjunction with such proposals generally. The question as to what, if any, further allocations from the fund may be made towards each of the categories of works in question has not yet been decided.

Can the Minister say when a decision is likely to be arrived at in regard to these investigations?

The matter is under active consideration at the moment.

Since the Minister has got the communication, when could the county council hope to get a reply?

I cannot give an approximate date, but it will be as early as I am in a position to do so.

Will it be soon?

I hope so.
