Vol. 150 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Cement.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if the recently advertised increase in the price of cement was sanctioned by him as a result of a recommendation by the Prices Advisory Body; and, if so, if he will state (a) the date upon which the Prices Advisory Body heard the application for an increase, and (b) why the application was heard in private.

The recently advertised increase in the price of cement was not submitted to, or considered by, the Prices Advisory Body.

Under arrangements agreed with the company in December, 1951, regarding the limitation of their profits, Cement, Ltd., are free to fix or vary their prices without prior reference to me.

I am, however, considering the matter in the light of the company's cent decision.
