Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Maternity Cash Grants.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state the number of persons in Dublin City (a) who applied for maternity cash grants, (b) whose applications were allowed, (c) whose applications were refused, and (d) whose applications are still under examination.

The Dublin Board of Assistance, who administer the Maternity Cash Grant Regulations, 1953, in the Dublin City area have intimated that to the 30th April, 1955, (a) they had received 8,945 applications, (b) 6,524 of the applications were allowed, (c) 1,651 were refused, and (d) 770 applications were still under consideration.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state the scale of means adopted by the Dublin Corporation for the purpose of the administration of the maternity cash grant scheme.

The Dublin Board of Assistance administer the Maternity Cash Grant Regulations, 1953, in the Dublin City area. I am informed by the board that no rigid scale of means has been fixed for the determination of applications but that the circumstances of an applicant are taken into consideration and each application is determined on its merits.
