Vol. 150 No. 12

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Clonard Electrification.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce when the E.S.B. propose to extend rural electrification to Clonard, County Meath, and if he will make representations to the board to expedite the matter.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the Clonard district is included in the Hill of Down area which has been considered for selection by the board on a number of occasions but which has not so far been selected as the returns for the area have not compared favourably with those for other areas still awaiting development in the board's Athlone district. The area will be reconsidered by the board in due course and the decision of the board will depend on how the returns for the area compare with those for other areas awaiting development at the time.

Could not the surplus revenue derived from the E.S.B. works of last year be used to increase further the supply to these people in those areas?

That is an entirely separate question.
