Vol. 150 No. 12

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Small Land Owners in County Kerry.

asked the Minister for Lands the number of small land owners from congested areas in North Kerry, who have applied to the Land Commission for an exchange of land; further, what action is being taken by the Land Commission towards the acquisition of land, where it is available, for the relief of such owners.

As Land Commission records are not kept by constituency areas, the information sought in the first part of the question is not readily available and the time and expense involved in segregating applications on such a basis could not be justified. Regarding the second part of the question, I presume the Deputy has in mind lands in North Kerry and on this point I would refer him to my reply to a similar question on the 11th inst.

I should like to emphasise to the Deputy that in selecting tenants for migration the primary consideration of the Land Commission is and, in view of the limited amount of land available, must be the merits of their proffered lands for the relief of congestion in the home locality.
