Vol. 150 No. 12

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Cleaning of Donegal River.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he received a request from a local committee to meet a deputation to discuss ways and means of having the River Lennon, County Donegal, cleaned, and, if so, (1) when the request was received, and (2) what action he has taken in the matter.

A letter was received in the Department on 31st August last in connection with the flooding caused by the River Lennon. In a reply dated 30th September, the correspondent was fully informed of the position in relation to drainage works and of the public authorities that might be approached in connection therewith. It was not, therefore, necessary to put the local people to the expense of a deputation to the Department.

Is the Minister not aware that his help might have been useful in a joint effort by all three Ministers and Departments where money might have been got, and that it was because of that that such a request was made to him and that it does not come too well from him now to reply by saying he has nothing to do with it and that that relieves him of all responsibility?
