Vol. 151 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Minced Steak Prices.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that minced steak is being sold by some Dublin butchers at between 3/- and 3/6 per 1b., and if, in view of the fact that these prices are comparable with and in some cases exceed the prices of standard cuts such as leg beef, round and rib steak, he will make an Order which will ensure that the mincing of beef is not done until the purchaser decides which cut is required to be minced, and that the price is based accordingly with an additional small charge to cover the cost of mincing.

The price of meat is not subject to official control. It is a matter between the individual purchaser and the retail supplier as to whether or not meat will be purchased in the piece or minced and I do not propose to make and Order of the kind suggested by the Deputy.
